Maxwells Double Century Guides Australia To Victory

Australia Thrash Afghanistan, Maxwell Hits Double Century

Maxwell's Double Century Guides Australia to Victory

Glenn Maxwell's stunning double century has guided Australia to a thumping victory over Afghanistan in Mumbai. The big-hitting all-rounder smashed a record-breaking 200 off just 102 balls, including 23 fours and 10 sixes, to help Australia post a mammoth 350-7 off their 50 overs.

Afghanistan's bowlers struggled to contain Maxwell's onslaught, with the 33-year-old hitting boundaries all over the Wankhede Stadium. His double century is the highest score by an Australian batsman in ODIs, surpassing Ricky Ponting's 164 against South Africa in 2006.

Afghanistan Fight Back

Despite Maxwell's heroics, Afghanistan fought back bravely with the bat. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz hit a quickfire 50, while captain Mohammad Nabi chipped in with 42. However, Australia's bowlers eventually took control, with Mitchell Starc and Adam Zampa sharing six wickets between them.

Afghanistan were eventually bowled out for 212 in the 45th over, giving Australia a comfortable 138-run victory. The win keeps Australia's hopes of reaching the Super Eights alive, while Afghanistan's tournament hopes are all but over.
